In Bazaar, you write your own license terms. There are no preset license types and no fixed list of rights to choose from. Each license is a short record you write in your own words, and each listing points to one. Because it’s free text, the license can say whatever your market needs: personal listening, commercial use, a set number of seats, a territory limit, or attribution requirements.

Example license record

{
  "$type": "diamonds.whereditgo.bazaar.license.terms",
  "title": "Personal Use",
  "version": "2.0",
  "createdAt": "2026-09-04T23:46:23.380Z",
  "licenseText": "For personal listening only. No commercial use, sync, broadcast, or derivative works permitted.",
  "checkoutConsentRequired": true
}

Fields

  • title : A short name buyers see, such as “Personal Use”

  • version : Your own label for this revision of the terms

  • licenseText : The full terms, up to 20,000 characters. This is the agreement.

  • checkoutConsentRequired : If true, buyers must tick “I agree” before they can pay

  • createdAt : When the license was written

Terms are locked to the purchase

Every AT Protocol record has a CID: a fingerprint computed from its exact contents. If any part of the record changes, even one character, the CID changes too.

Bazaar uses this to lock license terms at two points:

  1. 1.

    When you create a listing, it records the CID of the license you chose. The listing then refers to that exact version of the license, not just “whatever this license says now.”

  2. 2.

    When a buyer checks out, the receipt copies that CID, and the storefront signs it along with the rest of the sale.

The result: a buyer’s receipt shows exactly which terms they bought under, and nobody can change those terms later without the mismatch showing. That includes you, the buyer and the storefront.

Changing your terms

Licenses can’t be edited in Bazaar. To change your terms, write a new license and point your listings at it. Existing buyers keep the terms they bought under. Only new purchases use the new license.

When a license is created, Bazaar also saves a copy of its text, filed under its CID. So buyers can still read the exact terms they agreed to even if you later delete the original record.

Offering several licenses for one item

Each listing has its own license. You can sell the same item under several listings, for example a personal license at one price and a commercial license at another, and each sale is locked to the terms of the listing the buyer chose.
